Douce Ambiance Jazz Quartet perform a captivating programme of light jazz classics that everyone knows and loves, plus some fun extras - all played with the exquisite sound of violin and jazz piano trio.
Cathy Irons, a well-known violinist in the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, will display her incredible versatility, teaming up with top jazz musicians: Dan Robertson on piano, Dougal Canard on double bass, and Doug Brush on drums.
With a wealth of international expertise, rich musicality and virtuosity, the Quartet combine their talents, from relaxed jazz standards to lively Irish folk tunes, passionate tangos and sublime classical melodies.

Cathy Irons, violin, is a versatile violinist, performing in the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and touring NZ with programmes from baroque to jazz. Described as “sonic fireworks that dazzle with all their brilliance” and “characterized by inspirational musicianship" she has performed in the NZ Jazz and Blues, Dunedin Fringe, Arrowtown Spring Arts Festivals and toured for Chamber Music New Zealand and Arts on Tour NZ.
Dan Robertson, piano, performed at the New Zealand Arts and Christchurch Jazz Festivals and with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. While in Melbourne Dan teamed up with award winning songwriter Cam Giles-Webb with gigs at Dizzy’s Jazz Bar, The Paris Cat, The Melbourne International, The Eltham and the Castlemain Jazz Festival. His work on cruise ships has taken him to New York, Hawaii, and the Caribbean.
Dougal Canard, bass, is a multi instrumental musician, holding a B.Mus in jazz performance, doubling in bass and piano. He has extensive experience playing bass in all styles including rock, funk, jazz and show work, including NASDA and the CSO.
Doug Brush, drums, is an extraordinarily versatile percussionist. Locally he has performed with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and New Zealand Opera, and musicians Serj Tankian, Andrea Burns, the Topp Twins and Paul Ubana Jones, Fiona Pears and Mundi. He teaches at Christchurch's Ara Jazz School.
