The Mayfair Theatre in Kaikōura was originally constructed in 1934 and the Art Deco façade is known worldwide.  The 2016 Kaikōura earthquake significantly damaged the main structure of the building, but created an incredible opportunity to construct a brand new multi-purpose and flexible Arts and Culture Centre behind the now reinforced and preserved façade.

The last three years has seen the Vision 2020 project come to life and the new building is rising Phoenix like as an eco-friendly, modern, sustainable and future proofed facility.  The new Centre will have two auditorium, dressing room and on the first floor a gallery / exhibition / function suite leading to the new viewing balcony.  This will enable The Mayfair to host arts in many different forms including film screenings, live performances and art exhibitions.  We will also host small conferences, lectures, business meetings and hospitality receptions.

We can proudly announce that this year the facility will open in November, just four years after the 2016 earthquake and also marking 50 years of community ownership and the stewardship of committed and passionate volunteers.

We are now taking bookings for live performances, conferences and exhibitions and welcome offers of sponsorship.
